  This weeks Skywatch Friday image comes from Bar Harbor, Maine. The view is looking toward Frenchman Bay with Bar Island on the left and Sheep Porcupine Island on the right. In the far distance is the Schoodic Peninsula.

New England was on the receiving end of some beautiful spring-like weather over the weekend. High pressure over the region sent temperatures into the 50′s in some areas with crystal clear skies. Sharon and I took advantage of the beautiful weather and made a trip to the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island [...]

Tree Swallows have not returned to Maine yet, but when they do, I have the nest boxes ready for them. I love spending a summer afternoon sitting in the shade, sipping iced tea and watching Swallows hawk insects in mid-air. The cove and marsh off our back yard hosts hundreds of Tree and Barn Swallows during the summer months. [...]

One of my favorite birding spots in all of Maine is Goose Rocks Beach near Kennebunkport. Shorebirds, including the endangered Piping Plover and Least Tern, nest in the marshes behind the beach. Most of the time I can fill 3 or 4 eight gigabyte CF cards not only of birds, but of the beautiful surroundings. [...]

I am told that I am brutal on deleting photos that I don’t like after a shoot. If it’s out of focus, blown out, too dark, can’t see the eyes, etc. it goes in the recycle bin. On any given outing, I may fill an 8 gigabyte card with 400 photos and keep only 30 [...]
