Addressing bandwidth issues

June 5, 2007

During the month of June, I will be transferring this site to a new server that will be better able to handle the bandwidth issues I have been having. There may be frequent outages of Birding In Maine, but I ask that you please bear with me in this endeavor.

As many of you have noticed, during the last 3 days of May the site was not available due to reaching a bandwidth quota. When I first started this blog, I never dreamed that it would become so popular.

Here are some stats for the month of May:

  • 139,527 hits
  • Visitors from 33 different countries
  • Searches in Google and Yahoo for relevant content coming in the top ten search results, frequently number 1 or 2
  • 2959 new visitors bookmarking this site
  • Bandwidth: 10 gb (that’s gigabytes)

As you can see, I need to expand so that our visitors can be assured of trouble free viewing of Birding In Maine.

Please bear with me as I begin to transfer my files to a new server. Any outages will be very brief, and I will continue to post articles. I will announce when the move is finished. The web site address will remain the same.

Thank you for your patience!

Happy birding!

The Ash-Throated Flycatcher that has been seen at the Saco Yacht Club is still hanging around as of today, December 10th.

Thanks to fellow birder Bob Malbon, he is allowing me to post this wonderful photograph he took today of this beautiful bird. Photograph copyright 2006 Bob Malbon and may not be used without permission.

Project Feeder Watch

November 18, 2006

Project Feeder Watch

My wife and I are participating in Project Feeder Watch which is is operated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in partnership with the National Audubon Society, Bird Studies Canada, and Canadian Nature Federation.

Anyone with an interest in birds is welcomed! FeederWatch is conducted by people of all skill levels and backgrounds, including children, families, individuals, classrooms, retired persons, youth groups, nature centers, and bird clubs.

A nominal fee of $15.00 is charged to participate.

I have a request for those living in Biddeford. A survey if you will. I would like to know if you provide feeders for birds, and if so, how many months of the year do you provide bird food.

Simply reply to this article by clicking the “Leave a passing comment” link at the end of this article. Comments are moderated, and it may be a few hours until I approve it. I appreciate your participation in this survey. I will post the results once I feel no more comments are coming in.
