Kallen, You want to see a Bald Eagle? Make plans to go to the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge out on Plum Island, which is outside of Newburyport, MA. If you go there before Spring gets here, I believe you will see one.

Also try <a href="http://www.salisbury-beach.org/" title="Salisbury Beach State Reservation" rel="nofollow">Salisbury Beach State Reservation</a> where quite a few people have been reporting Bald Eagles.

As far as Pileated Woodpeckers, look for long, oblong holes in trees. This is a sure sign that one has been pecking about.

Dawn, It is fun, isn't it? And there is no reason to stop counting. E-bird is a great resource and keeps track of your data.

Thanks for stopping by!

I would be so happy to be lucky enough to have a pileated in my backyard.

I have two birds that I absolutely have to see this year no matter what. The Pileated Woodpcker and the Bald Eagle. You saw them both in the 4 days you counted. Not fair I tell you, absolutely not fair...... ;o)

Tricia, Thanks for stopping by!

Yes, I have heard of your Big Garden Bird Count. I followed some of it last month.

The differences in species is astonishing! There are several species that I saw posted that are species we get on this side of the Atlantic.
