In a struggle for what was right and free,
Was proudly born…

I remember when I was at Air Force survival school and one of the things we had to do was to spend some time at a “mock” concentration camp (which even though it was make believe it was no fun). Well anyway after a couple days there, just before we were to be released (though we didn’t know it at the time) the commdant of the camp was chewing us out big time as we stood in formation and in his rant he commanded us to turn around and salute his flat (which up to that time had been some eatern european looking thing). Not a man even made a motion to turn, then the commadant yelled out “academic situation” (which informed us we were to come out of role) and again he said turn and salute my flag. We all turned and as we did our eyes fell upon the stars and stripes and the Star spangled banner started to play…there wasn’t a dry eye in the place, as everyone considered the price that had been paid by those in uniform who had come before us to keep our flag flying free.
