It did seem like an early return. Perhaps, surveying the scene of continuing snowcover, he was having second thoughts? Exceptionally early return to this nest. Wow! He sat on the railing a good 10 minutes and then flew off. I don't know if this is normal behavior for these owls or not. I got photos and video of him or her.
