If having a wayward first spring Summer Tanager was not exciting enough, how about a male and female Scarlet Tanager visiting the same feeder as the previous bird did?
This morning as I was watching the feeders and having my morning coffee, a beautiful male and female Scarlet Tanager landed and had a breakfast of orange halves, bird seed and grape jelly. I immediately grabbed my camera, went to the bedroom window and quietly lowered it and began taking photos. My only worry was the lack of light due to cloudy skies with some drizzle. The female was no where to be seen, but I got a few shots of the male.
I wonder what will stop by next?

Fantastic pictures. Wonderful you have tanagers at your feeder. I am just starting out, but perhaps I should setup a feeder like yours and see if I get some other backyard birds.
They’re all stopping by your place because they know where the good eats are! I swear they must be passing your address down the line! ha!
Such beauties. Wish we could see them more often!

Lovely colourful birds. I can imagine running to get pix of them too. The Summer Tanager is especially beautiful.
I wonder what you will see today at breakfast.
You must share your bird feeder secrets with me! I live “downriver” from you in Phippsburg and have been feeding birds for years. I have never seen such a beautiful assortment of birds!
These are beautiful photos! And what a nice breakfast you served them!
Ok John..
I am not coming back here to look at your photos!
I am getting soooo jealous! I have tried to get photos of tanagers and Orioles and they are all blurry and too far away.
Since getting my new Canon with the 20x Zoom I have been having a blast taking photos..but I do better with birds that don’t move..LOL..
Ok ..so I might come back…
but can you please just have one blurry photo?
lovely hummingbird. thanks for stopping by.
I had a Scarlet male in my apple tree last night. What a wonderful sight!
Oh what a wonderful delight!
very nice-I’ve seen the Western Tanager but I’ve yet to see a Summer Tanager. Maybe this will be the summer for it.
