Osprey fishing photos

by John Briggs on April 25, 2009

in Bird Photographs, Blog, Weekend Birding

Just a quick post today to show a few photos of Osprey fishing near Small Point, Maine. When Sharon and I arrived at the location late this morning during low tide, the sun was already fairly high in the sky. We plan to return for an early Sunday morning photo shoot. The light won’t be as harsh and the lower sun angle should add excellent light to the undercarriage of the Osprey.

These images are “tall”. Please press f11 on your keyboard to make your browser window larger. Then click the image for a larger view.

I have a lot to write about and many photos to show, but little time right now. Rest assured, I will be posting regularly once again beginning tomorrow (Sunday). We are having an absolutely beautiful day (64° F.!) and it’s time to head out for an evening photo shoot.

Happy birding!

Fantastic photos, indeed! We saw an osprey yesterday and I got some amateurish shots through the scope that do show off the impressive black-and-white of the bird at rest in a treetop.

I’ll be fine. It’s going to require a different line of work for me.

I had hoped to go back this morning under better light conditions (lower sun), but the clouds were around and that nipped that idea.

John, this has been one of my nemesis birds to photograph so I am in awe over your FANTASTIC photos! Amazing. Such gorgeous birds.

Thanks Kim!

If you can get over to the river at Newburyport, there are plenty Osprey there to photograph. Pick a day and go an hour or so before or after dead low tide.

Very nice! Thanks for the f11 clue…I have never used that before…very cool and the photos were so much better.

Thank you Dawn!

I have started cropping some of my photos “tall” to prevent people from stealing them. It may be a pain to hit f11 and then the thumbnail, but believe it or not, the theives don’t like photos like this.
