Fox Sparrow – Passerella iliaca
Spring has sprung in Maine! Nearly a perfect day, except for the 40 mph winds, with a high temperature of 67° F. To add icing to the cake, a small flock of Fox Sparrows visited the yard this afternoon. It just so happens that this bird is absent from my photo files.
Not one to pass up the opportunity to at least try to get a photo of the beautiful Fox Sparrow, I grabbed my camera rig and headed out into the yard. I walked down to the edge of the cove where there’s plenty of sumac, raspberry and other thorny plants for ground birds to take cover. It was not long and I was rewarded with a Fox Sparrow who loved to pose.
