Welcome to the first installment of the Birding in Maine Photo of the Day. Occasionally, I will post a bird (or other wildlife) photo that I feel stands out from the other photos that I take. Accompanying each photo will be a short description. As always, comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.
The Osprey action was slow this morning at Damariscotta Mills. I saw a total of four Osprey and only one dove for a fish. Several lobstermen complained that the water is still to cool for the alewives to run in large numbers. Not to be one to fret over a wasted trip, I took a walk looking for something to satisfy my shutter finger. While near the fish ladders, I heard a commotion. A Herring Gull caught an alewife and the rush was on to see who could steal the fish and get away with it.
Happy birding!
