Egg on my face! Thanks to Ed Hess for the correction on this species. This is an EASTERN KINGBIRD.
I am not one who tries to get flight shots of such a tiny bird as the tree Swallow. They are fast and hard to get focused. All this said, I was in the backyard a few days ago and saw several of these birds flying around. It was a relatively quiet morning and I decided to give it a try. It was all over in less than a second. One shot…. I got it!
Happy birding!

Wow, I'll bet you can catch flys with chop sticks too!
Awesome…

Perfect – and looks so nice against that blue sky!
(P.S. Thanks for your kind words re: my loon loss. I am mulling over right now what to say to the culprit who scared them off the nest.)

Good job! I've tried like a son of a gun to get the Tree Swallows in flight but it just ain't happening. Such a wonderful bird too!
Such a gorgeous flight shot – small birds – song birds – wow …so difficult to get a good BIF!!! You really got a winner here!

Fantastic flight shot John! You captured the bird with its tail spread and it is perfect against the blue sky. Not an easy thing to do.

Nice capture
of course I wasn't there to catch all the details, but are you sure this isn't a kingbird? The white tip to the black tail, rounded – not forked tail, and wing shape suggest the kingbird to me. No?
Beautiful flight shot of an Eastern Kingbird.
Ah yes, idle shutter is the devil's plaything! I've tried catching those little devils, too – both kinds. Beautiful shot.
