The morning of Independence Day started out foggy and cool in Bath, Maine. By 11:00 a.m., the sun made an appearance for the Heritage Days Parade. But by early afternoon, skies became threatening as seen in the images above. Does the second photo depict a funnel cloud? The cloud acted strange, rising up and down into the surrounding clouds. We weren’t sure and went to the basement until the storm was over, just in case.

Wow, awesome (and by that I mean “awe-inspiring”) shots, John! The power and fury of Mother Nature.

It was beautiful in a way. There was a point where I had to go because of that strange cloud.

RUN! :)

John Briggs Reply:

My wife grabbed our two cats and I grabbed the cameras when we headed to the basement. Figured if the roof flew off, I could get an awesome sky pic!

An awesome sky pic … lol! Only a photographer! Those were some very intense clouds alright! I’d have been a little nervous also.

“My wife grabbed our two cats and I grabbed the cameras ”

A fine example of someone who got his priorities right!

Cheers, and that cloud would have also made me nervous… Quite impressive.

I’d say that was a funnel cloud! Stunning photographs and good instincts! Grab the most important things, wife – check; cats – check, camera stuff – double check!

Wow, sure looks dramatic to me! Have you been channeling Cecil B. DeMille? Is Moses hanging out in your backyard? Glad you are all safe and what wonderful captures!
