How in Gods name did you get so close without scaring it? He is so beautiful.

John, I am moving to Maine that’s it!!! You get the best birds up there!! That is one of the nicest shots I have ever seen of a pileated’s facial profile. Such a stunning bird.

One of my favorite woodpeckers. Nice shot! I think he’s looking right at you.

WOW!! The only time I ever saw one of these was on Sanibel Island in FL and i didn’t have a zoom lens to capture it. This is incredible!

I LOVE Pileated Woodpeckers!! I’ve blogged about them once or twice myself! I’m in Fairfield, ME, on the Good Will-Hinckley property (I’ve blogged about that, too) and we have a resident pileated. I leave him suet way out on the trail.

Hi John,
He is beautiful!
I laughed when I read how you popped up through the sun roof to capture this amazing photograph. I drive…(ride in) a convertible just because I also am a nature photographer! My husband is wonderful about driving me here and there.
I have not been in Maine for a number of years. I think a summer road trip would be nice.
I am enjoying your work. Looking forward to seeing Spring in Maine through your lens.
Thank you.
Sherry
